Cabin fever kicking in

And tomorrow it's supposed to snow more here in CO... sigh...

If only i had it in me to take up ice fishing. Unfortunately, i love rivers, though if any of there area lakes were un-frozen, i'd gladly hit them up to get my fix.

I don't tie flies in the winter, I don't ice fish, i don't hunt. That means a long, tortuous winter waiting for the thaw. Then comes the spring runoff, where only a select few rivers and tailwaters are fishable when my itch to get out is at it's worst.

From the lack of winter-photos on the site, i gather most of you don't do a whole lot of fishing in the winter either.

What do you do to keep occupied during the winter months?

Re: Cabin fever kicking in

Danny,
I also have the itch to get back fishing. The other day I made a trip over to a local lake. I was thinking very hard about “Ice fishing”. Then the thought of falling on the ice came to mind. (Some of us old guys don’t heal up that fast). Then the next one came, “COLD” “WIND” .
Then I looked at the inlet. WOW to my surprise there was an ice free zone some 100 ft. out into the lake. Water was running quite well into the lake. So the day was not shot. I used some crank bait and went for it. The fishing was slow during the time I was there but it gave me the fix I needed.
As for what else I have been doing, I have been looking a lot around the sporting goods stores. Spending more money than I should on “Stuff”.
Would like to have a better place to do some work on the boat. As it is the poor thing just sets there with the cover on it. (Some times I think it’s calling me to get out there and fish).
I also have been doing some repair work on reels and things like that when I find the time.

Yeah, all my gear is super-organized, tackle is well stocked. Sitting in the garage looking real pretty, waiting to get used.

I've been debating getting a boat this year. Nothing big, either a flat-bottom john boat or a canoe. I love canoeing, but just not a terribly versatile fishing vessel.
